Some time ago, I was browsing the multitude of glossy women’s magazines at my local pharmacy, and I saw that all of them had a beautiful celebrity, model or professional athlete staring back at me. Their incredible beauty and style had been assisted, either by a daily personal trainer, a fashion consultant, or graphically enhanced before publication. Inside each magazine were articles about cute sequined sneakers that cost just $300, meals you can make with ingredients you’ve never heard of, or style and beauty tips that look great on an 18-year old. Even that small handful of magazines targeted to my age demographic (sigh, over 40), showed a gorgeous celebrity, and boasted pages of articles about women “re-inventing” themselves, climbing Mount Everest, or tossing away their careers to volunteer in a third-world country.
And I wanted to know…where are the articles congratulating REAL women on just making it through another 40+ hour week, managing a busy family, and getting dinner on the table most nights? And where can we see REAL women, like us, no photo re-touching, no special lighting, who are truly beautiful because their smile lights up a room, or they have an infectious laugh, or they are simply fabulous humans?
Well, guess what. Welcome to my Real Women blog. HERE is where we will tell the truth. Here is where we celebrate REAL women, and their true beauty and strength – no matter your size, your age, your culture.
I am a mom, a wife, a friend, a sister, a daughter. I, just like you, play a game of “beat the clock” virtually every day, trying to be the best worker, best mom, best wife, best friend I can be. And luckily, I am surrounded by amazing “real women” to help me through my real life.
I hope to share with you some observations, experiences and thoughts, and encourage you to do the same in response.
I was nominated for an Illuminating Blogger Award, and would like to pass this torch to you, who is deserving of such appreciation.
Humbly, I have nominated you for the Illuminating Blogger Award.
Enjoy! Fae. 🙂
Thank you Fae!! You are so kind. I look forward to “paying it forward” with this Award in the next few days.
What a wonderful and redeeming blog. Often, we feel unappreciated, unsupported, tired of going it alone. It’s nice to remember that we aren’t alone!
Hi! It took more than 2 years to stupid me to realize you actually write this! How talented you are, I hardly can believe it..I used to think ou were sharing a blog you liked very much, although I sometimes had a strong doubt on similarities with your own life, Ha Ha!
Thank you Chris! And thanks for reading!
